Present Absentees
The Absentee
Property Law (1950) allowed the State of Israel to acquire control of all the
property (including land) left behind by those who were expelled from or fled
from their homes during the 1948 war. The absentee status does not change should
the person come back, or even if they never left the country in the first place,
in which case they are known as ‘present absentees.’
